THE MINING INDUSTRY AND ITS IMPACT ON CONSTRUCTION

EPP FOR MINING

Hello, blogger friend! It's a pleasure to greet you once again.

Today our topic is about Personal Protective Equipment and hazards in the mining industry.

In mining there are several risks that can cause multiple accidents or diseases. For this reason, companies are obliged to provide their workers with adequate equipment to protect them and thus be able to carry out a preventive strategy to eliminate or control those risks.

THESE ARE SOME OF THE MOST COMMON AND/OR FREQUENT ACCIDENTS

-Falling rocks, boxes, etc.

-The operator falls and suffers a serious injury.

-Tool strikes.

-The operator is caught in a moving part of a machine.

-projection of particles into the eyes.

-The operator is electrocuted.

-The operator is run over by a machine or vehicle.

-The operator suffers from blows caused by compressed air hoses that have come loose due to poor coupling and are projected because they lack a safety chain.

-The operator suffers from asphyxiation and/or intoxication due to a poorly ventilated place or a place contaminated with fumes and gases.

-Risk of explosions due to exposure to pneumoconiogenic dust and noise that can generate diseases.

Operators must receive complete information and training on the use of personal protective equipment, taking into account the risks of the work they will perform, the potential damage of each hazard, the purpose and limits of each protector, the correct way to use, inspect, maintain and store personal protective equipment.

-Safety helmet.

Note: The Class G, Type II safety helmet is generally used for mining.

It must be dielectric, have a lamp, the suspension must be adjusted to the size of the head, the chinstrap must also fit snugly and comfortably, well positioned.

Only mild soap and water should be used for cleaning.

-Safety glasses.

Several of the accidents that occur in mining can affect the eyes, so it is vitally important that miners wear safety goggles at all times to prevent the projection of solid particles or liquids into the eyes.

-Hearing protectors.

Miners are exposed to dangerous levels of noise, so wearing earplugs or safety earmuffs is also very important.

Also remember to always make sure that both earplugs and earmuffs make a good seal.

-Respiratory Protection.

The protector usually used is an air purifier with high efficiency filters against gases and dust.

It is of utmost importance that the protector makes a good seal on the face, to help this happen it is essential that the operator is clean-shaven.

Note: By using the protector correctly, you are avoiding silicosis, an irreversible and highly incapacitating disease.

-Auto Rescuer.

It is a special protector that is only used in case of fire inside the mine.

This device is designed to protect against carbon monoxide inhalation and serves only once to escape from a contaminated environment.

-Safety Gloves

The most widely used gloves are leather gloves that protect against abrasion, punctures and lacerations. Other widely used gloves are PVC gloves, which have similar qualities to leather gloves and are waterproof.

-Fall protection.

Consideration should be given to the design of the workplace, the resources that may be used, the height and personal protective equipment.

The fall protection equipment includes:

Safety belt with lifeline or safety harness with lifeline.

Equipment should be inspected before each use for damage or excessive wear. Damaged or excessively worn equipment should be destroyed and disposed of.

-Safety shoes and boots

They have a steel toe cap to protect the toe from falling objects or stumbling. Likewise, the sole should be non-slip to prevent slips and falls.

Boots are normally waterproof as the working environment can be highly humid and wet.

-Extra Elements.

Lamps, an essential element for operator safety inside the mine.

Waterproof suit for water protection.

So now you know what equipment is needed for the mining industry.

I hope you found it interesting and remember to leave me your comments.
